Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $169,047,478, up 80.82% ($75,556,629) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $164,091,455, up 82.88% ($74,366,690) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $4,956,023, up 31.60% ($1,189,939) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $159,135,432, a 85.13% increase ($73,176,751) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Nigeria was Russia’s 71st largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 82nd in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1241% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0715% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Nigeria was Russia’s 63rd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 69th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1957% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1088% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Nigeria was Russia’s 107th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 106th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0095% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0078% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 47.36% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (57.78% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 8.45% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (11.96% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.83% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.06% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.42% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (22.62% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.99% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (4.01% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.16% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.56% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $21,398,311;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $5,434,994;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $4,257,346;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $3,112,037;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,303,233.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $16,597,989;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,292,218;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,855,164.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.34% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (99.70% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.53% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (0.05% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $1,010,764;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $130,625;
