Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia was $91,507,886, down 57.55% ($124,048,013) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $55,528,321, down 67.19% ($113,727,421) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $35,979,565, down 22.29% ($10,320,592) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $19,548,756, a 84.10% decrease ($103,406,829) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 89th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 66th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0672% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1648% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 80th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 57th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0662% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2053% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 75th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 67th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0686% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0958% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 61.62% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (81.53% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 21.29% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (7.42% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.59% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (4.90% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.20% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.36% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.04% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (2.19% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.24% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (2.11% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $2,261,526;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $1,130,801;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $788,726;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $322,171;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $263,400;
  • Impregnated, coated, covered or laminated textile fabrics; textile articles of a kind suitable for industrial use (HS code 59) - an increase of $187,498.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $97,299,657;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $7,788,598;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $2,873,683;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,251,195;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $2,181,847;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $1,759,712;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,572,875;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,555,519;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $454,999;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $205,394;
