Russia’s Trade with Tajikistan

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Tajikistan totaled $217,104,967, up 3.73% ($7,807,738) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $210,410,479, up 6.31% ($12,498,104) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $6,694,488, down 41.20% ($4,690,366) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $203,715,991, a 9.21% increase ($17,188,470) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Tajikistan was Russia’s 66th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 67th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1593% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1601% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 52nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 54th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2510% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2401% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 100th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 93rd in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0128% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0236% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Tajikistan

The major share of Russian exports to Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 29.05% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (39.10% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 26.34% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (19.28% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.05% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (16.91% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.97% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (7.78% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.00% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (8.68% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.44% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (4.96% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $11,093,367;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $5,153,829;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $5,130,379;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $3,497,709;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $2,362,137;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $1,338,103;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,242,006;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $1,085,356;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $878,001;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $767,905.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $16,229,840;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $4,840,776;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $1,082,521;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $866,757;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $779,265;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $694,239;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $653,093.

The major share of Russian imports from Tajikistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.66% of Russia’s total imports from Tajikistan (4.18% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.94% of Russia’s total imports from Tajikistan (0.68% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
