Russia’s Trade with Vietnam

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Vietnam was $1,236,232,935, down 12.82% ($181,840,592) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $591,292,432, down 30.44% ($258,720,958) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $644,940,503, up 13.53% ($76,880,366) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade balance with Vietnam went from a surplus of $281,953,253 in the 4th quarter of 2015, to a deficit of $53,648,071 in the 4th quarter of 2016.

Vietnam was Russia’s 25th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 20th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.9072% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.0844% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Vietnam was Russia’s 32nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 21st in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.7053% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.0312% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Vietnam was Russia’s 21st largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.2301% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.1752% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Vietnam

The major share of Russian exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 62.97% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (46.52% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.65% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (7.92% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.62% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (0.75% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.08% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (2.82% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.67% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (0.97% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.20% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (1.26% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $19,508,005;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $9,932,647;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $6,884,451;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $4,481,655;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $4,470,955;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $3,482,869;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $2,890,816;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $2,869,452;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $2,115,298;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,026,043.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $33,966,988;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $4,010,896;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $3,498,367;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $3,319,137;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $2,114,972.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 16.28% of Russia’s total imports from Vietnam (14.30% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
