Russia’s Trade with Algeria

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Algeria totaled $551,602,331, up 23.69% ($105,651,097) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $548,460,603, up 23.63% ($104,836,127) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $3,141,728, up 35.03% ($814,970) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $545,318,875, a 23.57% increase ($104,021,157) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Algeria was Russia’s 41st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 40th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4291% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4594% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Algeria was Russia’s 34th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 29th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6581% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.7239% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Algeria was Russia’s 113th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 112th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0069% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0065% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Algeria

The major share of Russian exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 23.41% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (50.67% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.61% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (3.84% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.88% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (9.38% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 5.57% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (13.29% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $38,251,144;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $27,065,857;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $17,780,677;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $17,194,481;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $13,283,043;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,469,059;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - an increase of $2,093,493.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $184,270,589;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $28,384,712;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $3,991,673.

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.00% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (34.94% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
