Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Argentina totaled $156,182,873, up 0.34% ($531,584) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $30,663,174, up 43.51% ($9,296,446) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $125,519,699, down 6.53% ($8,764,862) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $94,856,525, a 16.00% decrease ($18,061,308) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Argentina was Russia’s 71st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 65th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1215% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1603% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 90th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 95th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0368% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0349% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 45th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 42nd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2776% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3751% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 64.45% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (7.73% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 14.88% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.56% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.67% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (64.81% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.58% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (8.99% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $18,659,775;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $3,341,120;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $731,719;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $413,562;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $409,668;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $133,240.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $7,595,427;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $3,994,916;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,815,292;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $610,731;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $550,304;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $218,186.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 88.13% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (93.63% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.09% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (3.64% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.92% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (2.44% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
