Russia’s Trade with Australia

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Australia was $124,557,601, down 3.84% ($4,971,606) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $19,134,894, up 9.50% ($1,659,447) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Australia in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $105,422,707, down 5.92% ($6,631,053) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Australia in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $86,287,813, a 8.77% decrease ($8,290,500) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Australia was Russia’s 75th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 70th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0969% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1334% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Australia was Russia’s 99th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 98th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0230% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0285% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Australia was Russia’s 51st largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 49th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2332% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3130% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Australia

The major share of Russian exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 41.66% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (38.73% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 24.70% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (16.20% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.98% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (22.39% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.70% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (6.52% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.96% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (12.76% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.80% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (1.74% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,147,978;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $435,684;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $368,578;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $367,033;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $310,119;
