Russia’s Trade with Hungary

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Hungary totaled $1,228,912,672, up 44.06% ($375,836,845) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $730,948,828, up 47.27% ($234,599,526) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $497,963,844, up 39.59% ($141,237,319) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $232,984,984, a 66.87% increase ($93,362,207) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Hungary was Russia’s 24th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9560% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.8787% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Hungary was Russia’s 28th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 26th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.8771% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.8099% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Hungary was Russia’s 23rd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 25th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.1013% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.9965% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Hungary

The major share of Russian exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 79.18% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (83.53% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.63% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (12.41% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.99% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (1.07% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.91% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (1.76% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $157,694,486;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $46,688,259;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $9,501,144;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $8,773,238;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $6,496,152;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $3,056,008;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $2,928,428.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $5,631,528;
  • Nickel and articles thereof (HS code 75) - a decrease of $2,206,350.

Russia’s Imports from Hungary

The major share of Russian imports from Hungary in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 35.66% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (34.07% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 34.84% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (33.96% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 15.22% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (13.03% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.15% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (3.17% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.93% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (3.67% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
