In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Iraq was $52,971,966, down 80.85% ($223,619,789) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $0, unchanged from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $52,971,966, a 80.85% decrease ($223,619,789) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Iraq was Russia’s 94th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 54th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0412% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2849% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Iraq was Russia’s 81st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 41st in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0636% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4513% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

There were no Russia’s imports from Iraq both in the 1st quarter of 2017 and in the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s Exports to Iraq

The major share of Russian exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 17.12% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (0.78% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.93% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (2.21% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.16% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (0.97% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.10% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (2.84% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 5.42% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (0.53% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $3,386,994;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $1,950,673;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,399,320;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,186,894;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $759,144;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $433,296;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $382,028;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $266,184;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $247,692.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $4,060,183;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $2,035,179;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $1,995,066;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $895,551;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - a decrease of $265,120.
