Russia’s Trade with Ireland

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Ireland totaled $362,280,679, up 19.98% ($60,319,960) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $96,307,474, down 19.41% ($23,190,679) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $265,973,205, up 45.77% ($83,510,639) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $169,665,731, a 169.46% increase ($106,701,318) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Ireland was Russia’s 53rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 50th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2818% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3110% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Ireland was Russia’s 67th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 57th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1156% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1950% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Ireland was Russia’s 34th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 36th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.5882% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.5097% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Ireland

The major share of Russian exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 39.81% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (16.89% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 31.02% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (20.92% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.72% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (1.87% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.15% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (0.22% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.13% of Russia’s total exports to Ireland (1.22% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $18,161,843;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $2,843,404;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,177,276;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,047,955;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $455,232.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ireland in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $601,378;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $315,213.
