Russia’s Trade with Malta

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Malta totaled $760,630,867, up 81.83% ($342,320,817) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Malta in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $754,282,195, up 83.26% ($342,692,721) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Malta in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $6,348,672, down 5.53% ($371,904) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Malta in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $747,933,523, a 84.73% increase ($343,064,625) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Malta was Russia’s 34th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 42nd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.5917% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.4309% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Malta was Russia’s 27th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 32nd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9051% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.6716% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Malta was Russia’s 98th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 97th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0140% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0188% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Imports from Malta

The major share of Russian imports from Malta in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 78.77% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (62.99% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 20.29% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (35.06% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.54% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (1.14% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Malta in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $842,368;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $204,632.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Malta in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
