Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Mexico totaled $480,571,703, up 28.80% ($107,460,975) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $327,764,986, up 51.21% ($110,999,756) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $152,806,717, down 2.26% ($3,538,781) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $174,958,269, a 189.57% increase ($114,538,537) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Mexico was Russia’s 42nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 46th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3738% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3843% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Mexico was Russia’s 40th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 47th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3933% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3537% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Mexico was Russia’s 42nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 39th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3379% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4368% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 81.27% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (71.19% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.93% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (11.52% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.13% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (2.14% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.13% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (11.16% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.65% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (2.33% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $100,480,929;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $9,170,117;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $8,299,659;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $5,498,425;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $4,378,280;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - an increase of $2,694,104.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $17,226,769;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,079,745.

The major share of Russian imports from Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.97% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (9.31% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.59% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (4.60% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
