Russia’s Trade with Mongolia

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Mongolia totaled $230,748,230, up 25.70% ($47,178,623) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $222,749,004, up 26.40% ($46,525,740) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $7,999,226, up 8.89% ($652,883) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $214,749,778, a 27.16% increase ($45,872,857) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Mongolia was Russia’s 60th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 59th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1795% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1891% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Mongolia was Russia’s 49th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 51st in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2673% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2876% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Mongolia was Russia’s 96th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 95th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0177% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0205% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Mongolia

The major share of Russian exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 63.36% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (63.75% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 13.38% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (20.29% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.89% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (4.40% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.02% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (6.12% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.71% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (2.02% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $12,856,490;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $2,318,937;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $1,127,319;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $683,329.

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 77.40% of Russia’s total imports from Mongolia (74.73% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 17.37% of Russia’s total imports from Mongolia (23.85% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 4.25% of Russia’s total imports from Mongolia (1.20% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
