Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $85,155,993, up 91.45% ($40,676,850) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $64,417,523, up 47.92% ($20,869,626) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $20,738,470, up 2,126.96% ($19,807,224) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $43,679,053, a 2.49% increase ($1,062,402) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Nigeria was Russia’s 85th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 95th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0662% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0458% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Nigeria was Russia’s 76th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 80th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0773% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0711% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Nigeria was Russia’s 83rd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 124th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0459% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0026% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 67.11% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (83.76% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.83% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.62% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 12.25% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (6.95% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.80% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (0.09% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.80% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (5.93% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $7,001,043;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $6,733,884;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $4,808,811;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,779,383;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,600,540;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $624,551.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,206,349;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $243,238.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.51% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (81.22% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.34% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (5.83% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.14% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (3.20% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
