Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Norway totaled $181,789,639, up 10.04% ($16,583,465) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $130,443,254, up 2.05% ($2,624,009) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $51,346,385, up 37.34% ($13,959,456) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Norway in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $79,096,869, a 12.53% decrease ($11,335,447) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Norway was Russia’s 62nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1414% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1702% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 61st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 54th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1565% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2086% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 66th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1136% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1044% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 47.42% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (35.44% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 29.92% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (42.78% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.47% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (6.16% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.43% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (7.60% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.89% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.47% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.17% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.55% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $16,558,694;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $3,371,369;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $1,711,606;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $1,032,587;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $858,711;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $602,483;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $555,606.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $10,926,170;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $5,284,018;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $2,539,374;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,891,470;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $870,422;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $862,684;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $663,289;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $516,417;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $450,374.
