Russia’s Trade with Qatar

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Qatar was $8,356,722, down 33.23% ($4,159,752) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $2,178,015, down 60.47% ($3,332,091) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $6,178,707, down 11.81% ($827,661) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $4,000,692, a 167.38% increase ($2,504,430) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Qatar was Russia’s 130th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 118th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0065% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0129% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Qatar was Russia’s 129th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 123rd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0026% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0090% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Qatar was Russia’s 99th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 96th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0137% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0196% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Qatar

The major share of Russian exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 27.77% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (15.15% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 24.46% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (6.02% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 20.82% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (3.56% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 19.67% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (3.15% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.23% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (70.48% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $195,666;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $174,710;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $59,187;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $42,612;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $34,499;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $19,337;
  • Furskins and artificial fur; manufactures thereof (HS code 43) - an increase of $15,000;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $14,400;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $12,918;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $8,370;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $8,115.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $3,851,122;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $238,945;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $193,109;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $47,200;
  • Ceramic products (HS code 69) - a decrease of $34,103.

Russia’s Imports from Qatar

The major share of Russian imports from Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 62.04% of Russia’s total imports from Qatar (75.77% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 37.93% of Russia’s total imports from Qatar (24.23% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $351,393;
