Russia’s Trade with Romania

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Romania totaled $975,952,486, up 62.47% ($375,266,999) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Romania in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $606,625,735, up 86.11% ($280,673,297) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Romania in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $369,326,751, up 34.43% ($94,593,702) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Romania in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $237,298,984, a 363.30% increase ($186,079,595) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Romania was Russia’s 30th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 32nd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.7592% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.6188% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Romania was Russia’s 32nd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 34th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.7279% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.5319% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Romania was Russia’s 28th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 30th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.8168% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.7675% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Romania

The major share of Russian exports to Romania in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 81.05% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (66.46% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.64% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (13.44% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.69% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (2.98% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.84% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (6.52% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.30% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (5.73% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Romania in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $7,947,707;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $6,434,104;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $5,881,448;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $4,011,817;
