Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $124,232,183, up 31.49% ($29,752,124) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $86,591,960, up 31.12% ($20,550,009) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $37,640,223, up 32.36% ($9,202,115) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $48,951,737, a 30.18% increase ($11,347,894) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 76th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 77th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0966% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0973% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 70th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 71st in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1039% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1078% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 73rd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 71st in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0832% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0794% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 35.68% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (5.88% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 20.17% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (64.01% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 18.85% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (12.43% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.84% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.53% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.30% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (13.52% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $10,974,530;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $5,498,448;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $3,055,500;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $1,795,433;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,111,606;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $898,839;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $698,842;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $489,193.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $29,659,786;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,356,332;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,286,257;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $408,770.
