Russia’s Trade with Slovakia

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Slovakia totaled $1,271,666,631, up 44.67% ($392,625,902) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Slovakia in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $838,227,726, up 42.55% ($250,213,777) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Slovakia in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $433,438,905, up 48.93% ($142,412,125) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Slovakia in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $404,788,821, a 36.30% increase ($107,801,652) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Slovakia was Russia’s 21st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 23rd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9892% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.9055% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Slovakia was Russia’s 24th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 21st in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.0058% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.9595% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Slovakia was Russia’s 24th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 29th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9586% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.8130% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Slovakia

The major share of Russian exports to Slovakia in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 87.73% of Russia’s total exports to Slovakia (80.83% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.44% of Russia’s total exports to Slovakia (11.07% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.19% of Russia’s total exports to Slovakia (5.02% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.09% of Russia’s total exports to Slovakia (2.42% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Slovakia in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $235,640,386;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $24,360,972;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $5,128,903;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $4,439,457;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $3,570,511.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Slovakia in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $19,806,917;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $4,232,823.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.70% of Russia’s total imports from Slovakia (9.57% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.16% of Russia’s total imports from Slovakia (2.89% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
