Russia’s Trade with Tajikistan

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Tajikistan totaled $175,063,506, up 43.30% ($52,895,567) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $171,876,830, up 50.43% ($57,618,230) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $3,186,676, down 59.71% ($4,722,663) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $168,690,154, a 58.62% increase ($62,340,893) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Tajikistan was Russia’s 63rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 71st in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1362% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1258% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 53rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 59th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2062% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1864% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 110th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 93rd in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0070% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0221% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Tajikistan

The major share of Russian exports to Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 28.98% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (19.13% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 27.47% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (36.23% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.62% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (18.29% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.51% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (11.20% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.37% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (8.16% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.37% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (3.85% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $5,820,839;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,380,021;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $2,288,083;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $1,548,956;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,410,224;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $1,368,020;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $1,146,915;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - an increase of $978,014;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $930,781;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $918,171;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $1,253,356;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $543,940.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.65% of Russia’s total imports from Tajikistan (1.28% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.54% of Russia’s total imports from Tajikistan (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.29% of Russia’s total imports from Tajikistan (0.82% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
