Russia’s Trade with Thailand

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Thailand totaled $385,248,642, up 30.83% ($90,791,476) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $84,415,707, up 12.99% ($9,704,365) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $300,832,935, up 36.90% ($81,087,111) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $216,417,228, a 49.22% increase ($71,382,746) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Thailand was Russia’s 50th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 51st in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2997% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3033% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Thailand was Russia’s 71st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 68th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1013% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1219% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Thailand was Russia’s 32nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6653% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.6139% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Thailand

The major share of Russian exports to Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 39.85% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (43.76% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 32.31% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (23.28% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.34% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (24.44% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.10% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (4.49% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.31% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (2.62% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.12% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (0.66% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $2,188,918;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,907,793;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $866,603;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $399,064;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $395,121;
  • Musical instruments; parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 92) - an increase of $270,287.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $3,763,321;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $3,699,171;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,248,184;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $683,476;
  • Lead and articles thereof (HS code 78) - a decrease of $456,113;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $361,334.

Russia’s Imports from Thailand

The major share of Russian imports from Thailand in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 23.05% of Russia’s total imports from Thailand (19.69% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.87% of Russia’s total imports from Thailand (14.11% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
