Russia’s Trade with the Philippines

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with the Philippines totaled $95,669,154, up 25.74% ($19,584,632) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $19,314,793, down 21.53% ($5,298,087) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $76,354,361, up 48.34% ($24,882,719) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $57,039,568, a 112.37% increase ($30,180,806) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

The Philippines was Russia’s 81st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0744% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0784% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The Philippines was Russia’s 98th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 94th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0232% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0402% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The Philippines was Russia’s 61st largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1689% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1438% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to the Philippines

The major share of Russian exports to the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 34.48% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (25.92% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 26.96% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (69.21% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 26.39% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (0.80% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.92% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (0.23% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.46% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (3.73% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.77% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (0.09% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $4,523,641;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $1,140,689;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $402,521;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $377,456;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $199,200;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $137,467;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $93,383.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $11,839,753;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $174,292;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $151,431;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $126,785.

Russia’s Imports from the Philippines

The major share of Russian imports from the Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 80.50% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (74.71% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.69% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (10.78% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 3.83% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (4.61% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.25% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (7.60% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
