Russia’s Trade with Bangladesh

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Bangladesh totaled $307,879,276, up 44.11% ($94,238,707) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $85,288,615, up 56.09% ($30,647,519) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $222,590,661, up 39.99% ($63,591,188) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $137,302,046, a 31.57% increase ($32,943,669) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Bangladesh was Russia’s 59th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 64th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2203% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1963% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 73rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 75th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1016% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0822% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 45th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3990% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3751% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Bangladesh

The major share of Russian exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 60.84% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (23.30% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.22% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (55.56% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.90% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (0.59% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.26% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (3.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.16% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (13.74% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $6,177,219;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $3,450,781;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $1,013,336;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $610,486;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $318,954;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $296,276;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $287,225.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $18,462,051;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $9,256,550;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $4,967,686;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $2,248,146;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,493,129;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $257,095.
