Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Chile totaled $246,647,985, up 50.61% ($82,882,145) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $18,609,782, up 95.46% ($9,088,970) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $228,038,203, up 47.84% ($73,793,175) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $209,428,421, a 44.71% increase ($64,704,205) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Chile was Russia’s 64th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 70th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1765% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1505% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Chile was Russia’s 100th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 109th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0222% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0143% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Chile was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 48th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4088% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3639% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 40.43% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (15.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 30.29% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (37.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 17.04% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (16.73% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.95% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (4.95% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.05% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (4.50% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.50% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (19.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.10% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (1.16% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $6,128,953;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $2,482,920;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $2,034,082;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $369,309;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $329,811;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $303,687;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $231,727;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $190,202;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $126,513;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - an increase of $77,335;
  • Ceramic products (HS code 69) - an increase of $70,815;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $65,794;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $58,104.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $1,749,307;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,048,437;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $456,071;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - a decrease of $178,334.

Russia’s Imports from Chile

The major share of Russian imports from Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 71.09% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (91.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 23.01% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (2.46% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.52% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (4.47% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $1,966,224;
  • Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 16) - an increase of $1,109,881.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Chile in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $1,285,647;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $730,251.
