Russia’s Trade with Hong Kong

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Hong Kong totaled $251,633,711, up 27.77% ($54,696,370) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $197,759,088, up 18.93% ($31,472,276) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $53,874,623, up 75.77% ($23,224,094) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $143,884,465, a 6.08% increase ($8,248,182) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Hong Kong was Russia’s 63rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 67th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1801% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1809% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Hong Kong was Russia’s 49th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 54th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2355% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2503% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Hong Kong was Russia’s 68th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 74th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0966% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0723% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Hong Kong

The major share of Russian exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 52.66% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (59.54% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.94% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (11.74% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.83% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (9.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.78% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (10.80% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.11% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (1.38% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.07% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (3.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $5,873,187;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $5,146,054;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $4,293,754;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $4,462,028;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $3,511,604;
  • Furskins and artificial fur; manufactures thereof (HS code 43) - a decrease of $1,201,278.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.60% of Russia’s total imports from Hong Kong (9.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 7.30% of Russia’s total imports from Hong Kong (15.29% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.61% of Russia’s total imports from Hong Kong (5.13% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
