Russia’s Trade with Indonesia

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Indonesia totaled $616,845,713, up 54.36% ($217,237,038) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $161,241,718, up 115.60% ($86,455,013) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Indonesia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $455,603,995, up 40.26% ($130,782,025) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Indonesia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $294,362,277, a 17.73% increase ($44,327,012) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Indonesia was Russia’s 42nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 45th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4414% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3672% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Indonesia was Russia’s 57th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 70th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1920% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1126% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Indonesia was Russia’s 28th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.8167% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.7663% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Indonesia

The major share of Russian exports to Indonesia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 42.48% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (14.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 29.77% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (55.01% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 14.98% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (19.01% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.52% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (6.88% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.01% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (2.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.45% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (1.20% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $10,836,303;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $7,660,739;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $7,237,638;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $3,599,673;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,290,873;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $833,965.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $3,273,238;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $1,995,396;
  • Lead and articles thereof (HS code 78) - a decrease of $1,040,021;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $898,818;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $567,335.

Russia’s Imports from Indonesia

The major share of Russian imports from Indonesia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 27.59% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (15.20% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.27% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (13.23% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 9.62% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (12.06% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
