Russia’s Trade with Japan

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Japan totaled $4,535,479,296, up 24.29% ($886,340,402) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $2,658,245,757, up 25.96% ($547,797,560) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $1,877,233,539, up 22.00% ($338,542,842) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $781,012,218, a 36.60% increase ($209,254,718) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Japan was Russia’s 9th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 8th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 3.2453% of Russia’s total trade (down from 3.3528% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Japan was Russia’s 10th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 9th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 3.1656% of Russia’s total exports (down from 3.1761% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Japan was Russia’s 8th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 6th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 3.3651% of Russia’s total imports (down from 3.6298% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Japan

The major share of Russian exports to Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 75.23% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (75.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.17% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (9.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.51% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (4.94% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 4.25% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (3.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
