Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Mexico totaled $632,280,381, up 47.91% ($204,791,139) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $388,267,185, up 44.29% ($119,184,099) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $244,013,196, up 54.04% ($85,607,040) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $144,253,989, a 30.34% increase ($33,577,059) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Mexico was Russia’s 40th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 43rd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4524% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3928% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Mexico was Russia’s 40th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4624% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4050% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Mexico was Russia’s 40th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 46th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4374% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3737% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 72.76% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (76.74% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 21.53% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (14.10% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.86% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (6.84% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.31% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.12% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $11,877,038;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $8,959,636;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - an increase of $2,854,630;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $2,435,228;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,957,581.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
