Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Norway totaled $420,878,075, up 62.54% ($161,934,687) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $154,384,644, down 26.39% ($55,343,208) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $266,493,431, up 441.48% ($217,277,895) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Norway went from a surplus of $160,512,316 in the 2nd quarter of 2016, to a deficit of $112,108,787 in the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Norway was Russia’s 49th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 55th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3011% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2379% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 60th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 47th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1839% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.3156% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 37th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 66th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4777% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1161% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 36.97% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (25.49% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 34.83% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (54.81% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 14.28% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.67% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.39% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (3.93% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.12% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (8.45% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.77% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $17,694,656;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $6,725,258;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $5,950,665;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $965,512;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $920,719;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $732,729;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $669,609.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $62,231,365;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $13,456,984;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $4,240,351;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $2,796,676;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $2,521,363;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $1,981,057;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $690,773;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $640,350.
