Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $207,971,869, up 58.24% ($76,545,864) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $166,858,183, up 77.74% ($72,979,135) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $41,113,686, up 9.50% ($3,566,729) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $125,744,497, a 123.22% increase ($69,412,406) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 67th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 72nd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1488% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1208% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 56th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 64th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1987% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1413% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 72nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0737% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0886% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 52.17% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.03% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 28.52% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (61.93% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.48% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (14.24% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.85% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (14.38% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.92% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (6.93% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.16% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (0.93% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $86,079,267;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $2,314,884;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $2,293,884;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $1,492,596;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,078,009;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,061,111;
  • Dairy produce; birds eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 04) - an increase of $504,201.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $8,177,521;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $7,100,687;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $6,247,375;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $686,773;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $666,839;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $659,035.

Russia’s Imports from Saudi Arabia
