Russia’s Trade with Spain

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Spain totaled $1,326,537,228, up 17.44% ($197,022,239) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Spain in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $539,355,474, up 11.46% ($55,468,931) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Spain in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $787,181,754, up 21.92% ($141,553,308) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Spain in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $247,826,280, a 53.22% increase ($86,084,377) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Spain was Russia’s 23rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 22nd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9492% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.0378% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Spain was Russia’s 33rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 31st in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6423% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.7282% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Spain was Russia’s 19th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 16th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.4111% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.5230% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Spain

The major share of Russian exports to Spain in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 78.13% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (69.71% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.00% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (18.01% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.27% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (5.90% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.25% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (2.73% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.11% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (0.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.70% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (1.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Spain in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $83,679,119;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $3,492,481.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Spain in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $16,614,541;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $7,655,015;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $5,648,789;
  • Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - a decrease of $2,335,393;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $2,316,467.
