Russia’s Trade with Switzerland

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Switzerland was $1,045,700,177, down 21.24% ($282,004,699) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Switzerland in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $553,874,419, down 28.96% ($225,747,326) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Switzerland in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $491,825,758, down 10.26% ($56,257,373) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Switzerland in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $62,048,661, a 73.20% decrease ($169,489,953) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Switzerland was Russia’s 28th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 19th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.7482% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.2199% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Switzerland was Russia’s 32nd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 19th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6596% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.1733% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Switzerland was Russia’s 25th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 20th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.8816% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.2929% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Switzerland

The major share of Russian exports to Switzerland in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 51.54% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (34.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 21.80% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (24.11% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 20.20% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (36.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.58% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (3.83% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.64% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (0.72% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.09% of Russia’s total exports to Switzerland (0.52% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $16,714,993;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $2,038,803;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,969,131;
  • Clocks and watches and parts thereof (HS code 91) - an increase of $1,903,918.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Switzerland in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $167,675,884;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - a decrease of $67,212,111;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $64,781,583;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $18,964,234;
  • Lead and articles thereof (HS code 78) - a decrease of $3,604,781;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $1,715,257.

The major share of Russian imports from Switzerland in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 39.94% of Russia’s total imports from Switzerland (47.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 31.88% of Russia’s total imports from Switzerland (28.40% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.15% of Russia’s total imports from Switzerland (9.91% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
