Russia’s Trade with Syria

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Syria totaled $115,433,247, up 362.62% ($90,480,962) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $115,028,736, up 461.73% ($94,551,125) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $404,511, down 90.96% ($4,070,163) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $114,624,225, a 616.27% increase ($98,621,288) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Syria was Russia’s 79th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 105th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0826% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0229% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Syria was Russia’s 68th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 94th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1370% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0308% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Syria was Russia’s 140th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 102nd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0007% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0106% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Syria

The major share of Russian exports to Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 25.98% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (53.09% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.82% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (6.54% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.27% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (8.73% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.91% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (30.39% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.49% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (1.09% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - an increase of $19,753,978;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $9,009,564;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $4,642,903;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $3,115,823;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $2,782,026;

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,135,277;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $749,251.

Russia’s Imports from Syria

The major share of Russian imports from Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.59% of Russia’s total imports from Syria (0.00% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
