Russia’s Trade with Thailand

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Thailand totaled $513,244,488, up 55.55% ($183,296,571) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $132,881,001, up 58.17% ($48,868,475) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $380,363,487, up 54.66% ($134,428,096) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $247,482,486, a 52.84% increase ($85,559,621) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Thailand was Russia’s 45th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 49th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3672% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3032% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Thailand was Russia’s 63rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 68th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1582% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1264% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Thailand was Russia’s 29th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 34th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6818% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.5802% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Thailand

The major share of Russian exports to Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 59.57% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (9.36% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 19.00% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (45.37% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 14.89% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (35.50% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.78% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (3.87% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.58% of Russia’s total exports to Thailand (2.45% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,126,746;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $844,593;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $575,000;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $518,487.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Thailand in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $14,657,114;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $13,562,025;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $719,612;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $718,604;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $423,514.
