Russia’s Trade with Venezuela

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Venezuela was $2,832,971, down 61.07% ($4,443,306) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $2,731,945, down 62.42% ($4,537,235) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $101,026, up 1,323.50% ($93,929) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Venezuela in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $2,630,919, a 63.77% decrease ($4,631,164) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Venezuela was Russia’s 154th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 129th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0020% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0067% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Venezuela was Russia’s 138th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 116th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0033% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0109% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Venezuela was Russia’s 150th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 170th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0002% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0000% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Venezuela

The major share of Russian exports to Venezuela in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 87.26% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (0.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.95% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (83.48% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.75% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (2.42% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (1.67% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $5,962,072;
  • Works of art, collectors’ pieces and antiques (HS code 97) - a decrease of $835,710;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $174,810;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $121,520;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $71,937;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $32,869.

Russia’s Imports from Venezuela

The major share of Russian imports from Venezuela in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 92.85% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (46.10% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.15% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (53.90% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $89,622;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $1,980;
