Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Argentina totaled $261,391,568, up 14.12% ($32,336,445) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $70,888,902, up 17.31% ($10,461,993) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $190,502,666, up 12.97% ($21,874,452) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $119,613,764, a 10.55% increase ($11,412,459) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Argentina was Russia’s 62nd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 64th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1788% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1879% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 76th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 77th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0830% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0840% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 42nd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3132% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3374% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 55.40% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (76.63% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 34.55% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (17.35% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.08% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (2.95% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.75% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (0.94% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.71% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (1.91% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,188,826;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $616,517;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $536,559;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $457,229;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $399,057;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $279,311;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $242,856.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $7,032,760;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $4,064,171.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 80.91% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (92.79% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.14% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (4.06% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.84% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (2.99% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).
