Russia’s Trade with Australia

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Australia totaled $151,218,841, up 36.43% ($40,378,820) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $19,692,572, up 24.34% ($3,855,275) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $131,526,269, up 38.44% ($36,523,545) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $111,833,697, a 41.27% increase ($32,668,270) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Australia was Russia’s 72nd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 71st in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1034% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0909% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Australia was Russia’s 102nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 99th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0231% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0220% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Australia was Russia’s 51st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2162% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1901% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Australia

The major share of Russian exports to Australia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 50.12% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (51.41% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.93% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (6.52% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.20% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (13.09% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.90% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (8.41% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.39% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (11.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.93% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (5.64% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,639,673;

  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $326,216;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $241,004;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $119,602;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $115,452;

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $205,283;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $189,599;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $92,928;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $89,185;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - a decrease of $84,075.
