Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Brazil totaled $1,333,356,038, up 17.29% ($196,598,910) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2017 were $465,843,391, down 1.33% ($6,274,178) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $867,512,647, up 30.52% ($202,873,088) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $401,669,256, a 108.64% increase ($209,147,266) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Brazil was Russia’s 24th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9121% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.9324% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Brazil was Russia’s 38th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 35th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.5457% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.6562% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Brazil was Russia’s 17th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 16th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.4262% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.3299% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 69.17% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (70.27% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 22.74% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (23.34% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.16% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (3.46% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.17% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.44% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $4,126,357;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $3,663,485;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $2,780,333;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $2,462,530;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $1,548,764;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $1,404,134.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $16,700,265;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $7,890,138;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $2,128,295.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 79.29% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (89.03% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.69% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.24% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (2.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.64% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (4.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
