Russia’s Trade with Costa Rica

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Costa Rica totaled $21,245,420, up 21.91% ($3,817,912) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2017 were $2,490,268, down 43.11% ($1,886,973) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $18,755,152, up 43.71% ($5,704,885) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $16,264,884, a 87.53% increase ($7,591,858) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Costa Rica was Russia’s 118th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0145% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0143% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 139th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 129th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0029% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0061% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 88th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 91st in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0308% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0261% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Costa Rica

The major share of Russian exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 60.07% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (31.73% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 21.92% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (54.42% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 9.08% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (12.20% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.18% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (0.07% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $178,799;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $11,680;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $8,626.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $950,145;

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $17,332;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $14,583;
  • Other made up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags (HS code 63) - a decrease of $8,430.

Russia’s Imports from Costa Rica

The major share of Russian imports from Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 49.57% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (40.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 46.98% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (55.81% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
