Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Kenya totaled $102,318,356, up 42.99% ($30,762,222) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $69,426,487, up 74.26% ($29,586,497) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $32,891,869, up 3.71% ($1,175,725) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $36,534,618, a 349.72% increase ($28,410,772) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Kenya was Russia’s 90th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 86th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0700% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0587% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Kenya was Russia’s 89th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 90th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0813% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0554% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Kenya was Russia’s 75th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 71st in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0541% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0635% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 82.40% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (72.77% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.82% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (8.48% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.52% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (6.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.02% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (3.25% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.64% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (9.29% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $28,314,246;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $2,642,445;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,485,405;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $404,641;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $251,448.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $3,085,295;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $494,147.

Russia’s Imports from Kenya

The major share of Russian imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.48% of Russia’s total imports from Kenya (99.77% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $734,050;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $718,098.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
