Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $126,668,150, up 51.70% ($43,170,208) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $118,172,807, up 50.56% ($39,684,683) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $8,495,343, up 69.57% ($3,485,525) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $109,677,464, a 49.27% increase ($36,199,158) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Nigeria was Russia’s 78th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 83rd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0866% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0685% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Nigeria was Russia’s 65th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 72nd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1384% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1091% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Nigeria was Russia’s 97th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 105th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0140% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0100% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 65.00% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (79.88% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 28.71% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (13.29% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.06% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.64% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.83% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.67% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.01% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $23,491,286;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $17,003,777;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $2,244,000;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,305,136;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $575,229.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $2,672,584;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $786,805;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $598,901;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $559,411;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $377,683.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.24% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (6.38% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.00% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (1.12% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).
