Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Norway was $415,437,983, down 6.21% ($27,487,053) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $220,871,095, up 23.70% ($42,317,055) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2017 were $194,566,888, down 26.40% ($69,804,108) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Norway went from a deficit of $85,816,956 in the 3rd quarter of 2016, to a surplus of $26,304,207 in the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Norway was Russia’s 51st largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 46th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2842% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3633% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 53rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 56th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2588% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2482% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Norway was Russia’s 43rd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 32nd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3199% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.5290% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 58.49% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (44.69% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 28.87% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (33.45% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.64% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (6.54% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.21% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.73% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $8,199,929;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $1,643,607;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $1,380,652;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $7,523,922;

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $2,153,655;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $1,618,862;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $1,016,529;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $801,482.
