Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $334,275,980, up 92.31% ($160,453,264) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $303,972,149, up 124.77% ($168,738,039) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 were $30,303,831, down 21.47% ($8,284,775) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $273,668,318, a 183.17% increase ($177,022,814) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 57th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 69th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2287% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1426% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 46th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 61st in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3561% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1880% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 81st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 73rd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0498% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0772% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 48.09% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (82.84% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 45.14% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.19% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.19% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (9.23% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.39% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (3.73% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.99% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (2.28% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $135,610,404;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $17,842,670;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $9,610,000;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $6,024,402;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,672,249.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $4,439,771.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 94.30% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (97.19% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 2.97% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (2.42% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.37% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (0.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).
