Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka totaled $104,836,246, up 11.64% ($10,933,492) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $25,449,766, up 48.96% ($8,365,069) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $79,386,480, up 3.34% ($2,568,423) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $53,936,714, a 9.70% decrease ($5,796,646) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 87th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 80th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0717% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0770% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 114th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 95th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0298% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0237% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 62nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 59th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1305% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1537% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 71.41% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (51.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 17.24% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (22.06% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.04% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (7.07% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.66% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (12.39% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.50% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (7.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $9,204,549;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $695,405;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $641,359;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $237,864;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $233,887;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $141,532.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $1,325,979;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,111,779;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $244,000;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $113,503.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 54.62% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (56.64% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 38.61% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (35.89% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.79% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (6.09% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.56% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (1.18% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $1,435,863.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $563,874;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $504,239.
