Russia’s Trade with Vietnam

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Vietnam totaled $1,417,819,352, up 57.58% ($518,068,227) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $536,049,591, up 194.17% ($353,823,356) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Vietnam in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $881,769,761, up 22.89% ($164,244,871) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Vietnam in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $345,720,170, a 35.42% decrease ($189,578,485) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Vietnam was Russia’s 26th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 27th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.9699% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.7380% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Vietnam was Russia’s 46th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6280% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2533% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Vietnam was Russia’s 18th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 19th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.4496% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.4357% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Vietnam

The major share of Russian exports to Vietnam in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 64.54% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (22.70% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 12.13% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (5.31% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.82% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (34.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.91% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (16.74% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.45% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (14.36% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.60% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (3.73% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $44,193,034;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $30,511,447;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $4,435,927;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $4,245,293;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $4,137,617;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $4,040,379;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $3,704,298;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $2,784,310;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $19,132,894;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $8,914,434;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $7,775,061;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $6,708,733;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $5,169,336;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $3,013,542.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 12.08% of Russia’s total imports from Vietnam (12.51% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
