Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Argentina was $163,142,903, down 16.15% ($31,420,844) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $15,787,747, down 58.43% ($22,186,495) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $147,355,156, down 5.90% ($9,234,349) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $131,567,409, a 10.92% increase ($12,952,146) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Argentina was Russia’s 76th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 67th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0976% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1428% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 112th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 89th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0153% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0453% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Argentina was Russia’s 53rd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 47th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2292% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2987% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 43.85% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (85.35% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 23.21% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.29% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.34% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.57% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.12% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (3.06% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.51% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (2.26% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,420,795;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,241,546;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,180,774;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $415,380;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $318,873;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $316,556;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $230,980;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $190,644;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $182,057;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $180,507;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $154,863;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $116,800;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $111,792;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $87,242.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $26,368,170;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $1,134,202;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $654,498;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $106,585;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $78,689;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $54,263.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 88.98% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (91.84% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.41% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (6.33% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.20% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (1.08% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $5,575,093;

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Dairy produce; birds eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 04) - a decrease of $10,014,294;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $8,288,229;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $5,771,496;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $1,288,732;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $917,512;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $651,287;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $615,691.
