Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Brazil totaled $1,481,647,085, up 13.67% ($178,203,754) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $618,305,104, up 3.95% ($23,474,846) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $863,341,981, up 21.84% ($154,728,908) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $245,036,877, a 115.35% increase ($131,254,062) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Brazil was Russia’s 23rd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 24th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.8864% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.9565% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Brazil was Russia’s 35th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 31st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6011% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.7095% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Brazil was Russia’s 20th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 18th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.3431% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.3515% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 77.67% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (58.31% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 18.07% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (36.58% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.05% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.73% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.72% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.80% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $128,561,164;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $15,725,352;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $3,203,266;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $2,992,315;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,991,221.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $121,572,748;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $10,121,601.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 69.08% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (84.88% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.21% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (5.47% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.22% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (2.32% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.32% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (6.17% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $80,070,628;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $18,112,999;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $11,162,227;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $8,986,894;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $3,653,847;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $2,720,548.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $28,785,497;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $15,824,720;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - a decrease of $8,186,995.
