Russia’s Trade with Canada

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Canada totaled $353,563,867, up 11.46% ($36,366,214) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Canada in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $164,177,646, up 71.80% ($68,613,168) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Canada in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $189,386,221, down 14.55% ($32,246,954) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Canada in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $25,208,575, a 80.00% decrease ($100,860,122) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Canada was Russia’s 59th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 56th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2115% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2328% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Canada was Russia’s 66th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 72nd in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1596% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1140% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Canada was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 38th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2946% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4227% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Canada

The major share of Russian exports to Canada in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 41.16% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (10.35% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 23.86% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (33.50% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.46% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (28.16% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.64% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (4.13% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.46% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (3.66% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
