Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Chile totaled $298,680,342, up 67.32% ($120,174,339) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $25,657,793, up 125.83% ($14,296,453) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $273,022,549, up 63.35% ($105,877,886) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $247,364,756, a 58.79% increase ($91,581,433) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Chile was Russia’s 64th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 69th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1787% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1310% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Chile was Russia’s 103rd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 113th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0249% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0136% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Chile was Russia’s 39th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 45th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4247% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3188% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 31.96% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (31.54% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 28.50% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (37.86% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 18.20% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (3.37% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.93% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (17.89% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.77% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (7.21% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.64% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (0.89% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $3,082,495;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,038,912;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,588,061;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,902,132;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $1,260,632;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,087,608;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $895,052;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $351,147;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $229,184;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - an increase of $219,757;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $168,089;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $114,666.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $358,175;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $175,578;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $80,212.

Russia’s Imports from Chile

The major share of Russian imports from Chile in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 65.52% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (90.37% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.45% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (0.00% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 12.82% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (1.41% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.55% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (7.39% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $4,818,748;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $4,209,783;
