Russia’s Trade with Egypt

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Egypt totaled $2,714,713,651, up 88.34% ($1,273,301,584) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $2,631,173,586, up 88.55% ($1,235,701,389) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $83,540,065, up 81.85% ($37,600,195) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $2,547,633,521, a 88.78% increase ($1,198,101,194) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Egypt was Russia’s 17th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 21st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.6242% of Russia’s total trade (up from 1.0578% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Egypt was Russia’s 12th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 18th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 2.5579% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.6645% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Egypt was Russia’s 64th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 71st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1300% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0876% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Egypt

The major share of Russian exports to Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 20.65% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (29.04% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.98% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (34.79% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.89% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (12.23% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.07% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (4.47% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.03% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (5.04% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.56% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (1.05% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $94,560,682;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $70,321,231;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $46,019,735;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $41,671,435;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $41,079,858;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $38,370,429;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $9,463,151.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $278,826,128;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $53,688,923;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $12,759,719.

The major share of Russian imports from Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 60.73% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (61.57% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 19.36% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (2.75% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 10.68% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (22.33% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.98% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (11.45% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.30% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (0.56% in the 4th quarter of 2016).
